Early practice notes: Friday edition

Perhaps there's some movement in the quarterback race today. Chris Todd replaced Neil Caudle in the first practice group this afternoon. I'm not sure what the move means, if anything, but I'm sure Gus Malzahn will be asked exactly that when we speak to him in just over an hour.

Caudle wasn't with Kodi Burns and Todd during the first session.

Other notes from practice:
  • Mike Blanc was in shells and helmet todayand didn't have the same wrap on his left hand/wrist that he sported during Thursday's practice. Though Blanc didn't warm up with the team, he did get his ankles taped toward the end of the session. He joined the defensive linemen when Auburn started breakout groups, but did not go through drills. Gene Chizik said Thursday that Blanc is fine.
  • S Daren Bates is cleared and now on the Auburn roster. He was not with the first practice group. WR Ralph Spry and DB Woody Parramore have also been added to the roster. Spry must sit out this year after transferring from Minnesota in the spring.
  • DE Nosa Eguae moved up from the second practice group to the first practice group. I'm not sure what to make of this since Chizik says it doesn't mean anything. Tracy Rocker said yesterday that Eguae has been good so far.
  • Trooper Taylor implemented his contract drill with the blocking pad again today. He took a swing at receivers just as they caught passes over the middle with the intention of making them not worry about contact. "We will not be soft this fall," Taylor said. "I promise you that." The move almost backfired. Taylor hit WR Darvin Adams, who dropped the ball. Adams grabbed his left hand and trainers checked out his fingers. Adams was fine and started catching passes in another drill minutes later. Taylor stopped that drill shortly after Adams got checked out.
